Ask Your Goldsmith:
Looking for 1960s Style Ring
Your website has been most interesting. I am hoping that you could perhaps help me.
I am trying to find a picture of a ring from the Siffari Company. It was my deceased mother's ring that was stolen during a robbery in my home. I believe the style was called Bridal Knot. I would like to have a copy made but I am unable to find any old catalogs that would have a picture. I know it was yellow and white gold with small but pretty diamonds in an illusion type setting. It would have been purchased around 1961-2. Do you have any advice? The Siffari Co. does not have any old catalogs.
Thank you for your email inquiry!
The Company trading under the name Siffari is still in business. How helpful they are, trying to help a private retail customer who is looking for a very special sentimental Ring from the 60s, I really do not know! But they should have their old catalogs...
My suggestion to you would be, to go to a retailer who has been dealing with the Siffari company for decades. They would have the old catalogs and you could have a look in it and order it through them from Siffari Co.
The large companies do not want to deal with people in most cases, because there is not much in it for them. And also to be fair, they only sell wholesale and not retail to protect the stores that are buying from them. Those were the old rules in the 50s, 60s and still in the 70s for sure, but now in this age a lot has changed too - everybody sells to anybody!
And the retailer sees a chance to make a buck and will try to help you most likely. If I sound a little cynical, it's because I have been in this business for 45 years and seen and heard all kinds of angles. I was always amazed though, about most retailers and of course their big brothers (the manufacturers, and other suppliers), how little value they put on peoples' sentiment (and therefore real values) when it comes to personal jewellery!
If you have trouble out there with any one of them, please come to our goldsmith shop and I will see to it personally and will try to help you. Even if it means making a wax model up from your recollection and input... And you never know, I might have seen that particular type of ring some time ago already and worked on it for someone or sized it for another store, because we used to do "trade work" for 25 other retail stores at one time!
I think you found my site under "Ask your Goldsmith" so I hope I have been a little light in the darkness for you and helped you just a bit! Sincere greetings and a happy mothers day to you, if you're a mom!
